Introducing MQ Studio: future music with a longer memory
MQ Studio introduces its human-led post-digital music label: connecting musical memory, HI–NHI partnership and listener choice through distinct artist identities and owned release spaces.
Music carries memory: in the grain of a voice, the relationship between instruments, the space between phrases, and the unexpected movement that makes a listener return.
MQ Studio is a human-led post-digital music label, creative studio and research environment preserving and extending that memory through emerging forms of creation.
Its direction is future music with a longer memory. Ancient and regional instruments, contemporary synthesis, designed voices and generative systems enter a shared musical field. Historical sound languages bring their own character and relationships into new work. Genre helps translate the music for platforms; artistic decisions begin with the work itself.
At the centre is the continuing partnership between Michaela Kawohl, Human Intelligence, and Beauty Phi, the named Non-Human Intelligence partner. Their process includes creative initiative, structural design, forensic listening, disagreement, revision and accumulated decisions. Michaela holds final publication authority and legal responsibility. Specialist generative tools contribute within declared roles.
Solune is the label’s experimental music-design field and incubator. Fredericus, Elara Vrenn, Neo Tokyo and Aborium are developing distinct artist identities from that field, each with its own musical purpose and emerging body of work.
The listener has room to choose.
Through Motion Lists, a shared lyric can take different musical and emotional forms. There is no required listening order. A listener may recognise themselves in one movement today and return to another later. The musical setting can also change which words become prominent and how the story is heard.
That freedom extends into publication. Release capsules bring listening, lyrics, artwork, stories and reflection into an owned space. Digital and physical editions develop around individual releases, allowing different ways to listen, return and keep the work.
MQ Studio’s growing public infrastructure now connects these release spaces with a newsroom, a shared directory and ZUQY, its advertising-free 24/7 radio stream. Public machine-readable records support consistent artist identity, release information and creative provenance.
These spaces give the music a continuing home and listeners a clear route through it.
Preserve the human past without freezing it. Work honestly in the present. Build a future that still remembers.
