Santa Lucia: Old Roots, New Movement

Solune revisits Santa Lucia through new English and Icelandic interpretations, bringing ancestral instrument references into contemporary post-digital music design. Listening and selection are underway at MQ Studio, with separate releases in preparation.

MQ Studio is developing new English and Icelandic interpretations of Santa Lucia by Solune, revisiting an early work through the studio’s evolving post-digital music design.

The Icelandic direction brings langspil and Icelandic fiðla references into a contemporary acoustic and electronic setting. Breath, vocal phrasing and instrumental response shape the movement, with ancestral references serving as starting points for new music.

The work follows MQ Studio’s HI–NHI creative partnership: Michaela Kawohl leads creative decisions and forensic listening, with Beauty Phi contributing to structural design and reflection. Generation tools provide material for selection and further development.
